About Us
Truth, Love & Counseling (TLC) was established and incorporated in November, 2012 to serve the mental health, spiritual, and material needs of Horry County residents, who do not qualify for Medicaid yet often lack sufficient funds to obtain the assistance they need.
To aid in fulfilling this overwhelming need in our community, TLC operates as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, providing services on an affordable, income-based scale to those clients.
During our development, we discovered that many Medicaid recipients prefer a choice in selecting their mental health provider, and many others are unable to obtain adequate treatment due to a limited number of credentialed providers accepting Medicaid; therefore, in addition to our nonprofit mission, we also accept and assist Medicaid-eligible clients.
What We Offer
TLC specializes in providing Trauma Informed Care. This typically includes Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral techniques for children and adolescents and EMDR techniques for adults who have experienced a traumatic event or are experiencing trauma-like symptoms such as anxiety, depression, attachment issues, or emotional disturbances.
Using techniques and skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and/or Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, TLC also offers therapy to deal with non-trauma issues.
TLC’s counseling services are guided by the belief that mental and emotional illnesses are best healed through the truth and wisdom of biblical principles as well as the science of psychology; therefore, specific concepts associated with the Christian-faith tradition and scriptural principles are incorporated across the board in counseling at TLC. Prospective clients should know that, although TLC is based on a Christian worldview, they do not have to be Christian to receive our services.
While it may occasionally be necessary to place clients on a waiting list, no client will ever be turned away for therapeutic services.

Based on these scriptural teachings, our mission is to ensure that clients are aware of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; are treated with love, respect, and acceptance; and are helped and encouraged in meeting their mental health, emotional, and material needs.
